Corruption allegations in Olympic sponsorships involving former Dentsu director Haruyuki Takahashi have shed light on the company’s overwhelming grip on Japan’s sports marketing industry.

Through its role as exclusive agent, Dentsu has secured a record approximately 370 billion yen ($2.8 billion based on current exchange rates) in marketing revenue for the Olympics Organizing Committee and Tokyo Paralympics, a committee of which Takahashi was a leader.
