Over 100 Japanese lawmakers had ties to Unification Church: investigation

More than 100 of Japan’s 712 lawmakers have had ties to the controversial Unification Church, nearly 80% of them from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, a Kyodo News survey revealed on Saturday.

In the survey with a response rate of over 80%, 106 had connections to the church, such as attending events organized by entities associated with the religious group, which has come under renewed attention after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe last month, or receive cooperation from its members.
