Nursing home looking for babies

The fight against the labor shortage in Japan continues unabated. The population of the island nation is in decline, it is a well-known fact. The government in Tokyo needs to examine how the country operates with fewer people and therefore increasingly recruits groups of people who have not been deemed capable of careers for a long time. This is another reason why there are more working women than ever before. Thus, more and more robots are used. And that is why the government is trying – cautiously – to attract more foreigners to the labor market and to promote retirement at 75. In search of new so-called human resources, the world’s third largest economy cannot impose any restrictions on itself to think about itself. The question is therefore to know what is the real contribution of children to the daily work of the country?

Starting a career from scratch can offer new hope to desperate employers. A retirement home in Kitakyushu, in the south of the country, is leading the way. He created jobs for babies and for a time hired able-bodied people from birth to four years old. your work? Keep superiors in good company and spread good humor. The retirement homes already employ more than 30 extremely young people and are satisfied with their performance. Director Kimi Gondo says so Japan time: “Our residents only smile at the sight of children.” And always necessary. Characteristic advertised on a poster: “We are looking for! Anyone of the right age who is ready to work can apply. In particular, his parents. Potential nurses do not yet know how to read.

Even children have to deal with competing machines

It seems that the Kitakyushu institution is creating a new course on care for the elderly. Because in modern care it is a classic task for robots to talk to elderly people, to look at them and to caress them. Machines in the shape of stuffed seals, cats or futuristic figures are standard equipment in many healthcare establishments. A fledgling offensive is unlikely to supersede these high-tech era achievements. But it’s a good sign that man can once again counter the machine with something. The artificial sweetness of Justocat or black pepper is convincing. But the peaceful laughter and eagerness to rub shoulders with a real baby is another matter.

The Japanese are used to seeing Pepper robots. Even the use of children in nursing homes should not displace them.

The working conditions of the children appear to be good. The parent signs an employment contract which guarantees the child that he will come to work “when he wants to”. The parents are always present. The baby decides to take a break. The baby can just cry, then sleep, food, space – whatever is missing, he gets it then. Maybe we should talk about payments again. Diapers and powdered milk – The best babies probably won’t put up with this long term.

Of course, the Japanese economy must now be wondering what to do with this model. How to connect young children to the world of work? What tasks can you entrust to them? And most importantly: if you have found a job suitable for newborns, where can you find them? The fact that there are fewer and fewer births in Japan greatly aggravates the situation of a baby boom in the labor market.
