Celtic transfer link Ko Itakura deserves praise from Japanese boss for handling Brazilian Neymar

Celtic transfer target Ko Itakura has been singled out by Japanese boss Hajime Moriyasu for chaining Neymar this afternoon.

The Japanese lost 1-0 to Brazil and it was indeed the PSG superstar who scored the winning goal from the penalty spot.

For Moriyasu, however, he credits Itakura with reducing the score and being able to silence Neymar for most of the action.

“Itakura did a good job of holding on in a situation where poor judgment could have resulted in another goal,” the manager said the day after the clash.

“His contribution was a big part of why the team was able to fight on without collapsing.”

Kyogo led the line for his country during the match before Daizen Maeda also came off the bench to complete the 90 minutes.

It comes as the Hoops reportedly continue to monitor the Manchester City defender.

We told how 25-year-old Itakura was on loan at Schalke last season, with the German side given the option to keep the player on a permanent contract.

However, they chose not to retain his services and instead thanked him for his efforts.

This opened the door for Ange Postecoglou but, so far, there have been no concrete talks for the player.

The Celts are still keen on Cameron Carter-Vickers who is expected to leave Spurs this summer.
